As we reflect on our first in‑person event, held just before the Fourth of July, we are filled with gratitude. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped bring people together for discussions that highlighted why healing must be a priority for every child in every system.

A special thank you to those who trusted the space we created enough to share openly. Your courage and honesty remind us why this work matters and what real change requires. We hope you left with new connections and the knowledge that you are not alone in this effort. We also hope you see new opportunities for improvement and collaboration ahead.

For those who missed the event or want to revisit some key points, here are a few highlights:

  • Every point of contact with a child is a critical interception point and an opportunity to facilitate healing. When systems fail to respond appropriately before care, children’s stability and chance for permanency suffer.

  • Therapists, social workers, and those working in child welfare carry enormous responsibility, yet many are underpaid and stretched thin. A strong support system for children requires a strong foundation of professionals who are respected, valued, and sustainably supported.

  • Being trauma‑informed goes beyond completing a training or checking a box. It requires understanding, presence, and a commitment to respond with care when it matters most.

  • Every behavior has a story behind it. When we pause, observe, and consider what might be happening beneath the surface, we can support healing rather than cause further harm.

  • Silos and broken systems do not just fail to help. They can prolong and perpetuate harm, allowing intergenerational trauma to take root. Coordinated action across sectors is essential.

Together, let’s turn these insights into meaningful action and keep showing up for children and families in real ways. Thank you for being part of this journey.

Thank you to the following organizations for registering and those that showed up to show their commitment to children and families in Illinois!
